Disaster relief rolls out to Kerrville after deadly floods

Dallas-based nonprofit, Texans on a Mission, was on the ground in Kerrville assisting in disaster relief.

KERRVILLE, Texas — Disaster relief is on the way to areas surrounding Kerrville, and in some cities, help has already arrived.

Hundreds of first responders were in Kerrville on Monday searching for those still missing from the deadly flooding on July 4.

Outside the Hill Country Youth Center, agencies set up a command center where Kerr County officials have been providing critical updates in the search-and-rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, a Dallas-based nonprofit was on the ground assisting in disaster relief.

Texans on a Mission deployed about 30 volunteers to Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville to help with relief efforts. The team assembled their own command center where they are providing food, showers and laundry to first responders.

Special Projects Coordinator Russ Dilday told KENS 5 the nonprofit refers to themselves as “second responders.”

“We bring cleaning items, we bring construction materials. Because a lot of times we have to tear out pieces of the house to come back in and ready them for the next phase,” said Dilday. “It might be insurance that will allow them to rebuild their homes. We mitigate everything that’s been destroyed and get them ready for the next path.”

Texans on a Mission will be supporting Kerrville for the next two weeks.
