Discovery of body at Woodlawn Lake marks 3rd such incident at the park in 2 months

SAPD says the latest incident is still under investigation.

SAN ANTONIO — The discovery of an unidentified man’s body at Woodlawn Lake continues an uneasy trend for San Antonians living on the near-northwest side.

This incident, which San Antonio police say is still under investigation, marks the third such discovery in the last two months at the park often frequented by families, joggers and groups.

Authorities say it was just before 8 a.m. Thursday when passersby spotted a body floating in the water of a drainage ditch and called police. First responders arrived and were able to recover the remains. The man hasn’t been identified

It holds echoes of March 25. On that day, also at around 8 a.m., a jogger maneuvering the park’s trails noticed what appeared to be a body floating in the water. Police arrived soon after to retrieve it; personnel said it appeared the body had been there as long as two days.

The remains were later identified as belonging to 61-year-old Delilah Jimenez. The Bexar County medical examiner ruled she died from an accidental drowning after she took shelter in a drainage ditch and was swept away by floodwaters.

Just a couple of weeks later, in mid-April, San Antonio firefighters retrieved the body of a man – 42-year-old Kevin Clint Frago – who drowned after a police officer saw him in the lake but couldn’t save him. Investigators at the time said there could have been an undercurrent or debris holding the victim down.

The medical examiner also ruled Frago’s death was an accidental drowning.
