Once authorities made entry, they found a 72-year-old man dead on the floor with several injuries to his face and body.

SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested in connection to the death of a 72-year-old man.

On Dec. 12 around 4:30 p.m., the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Avenue K after receiving a call requesting a welfare check from a concerned relative.

Upon arrival, police observed blood on the scene and requested the Criminal Investigation Division to investigate further.

Once authorities made entry, they found a 72-year-old man dead on the floor with several injuries to his face and body.

Detectives immediately opened up a homicide investigation, learning that the victim had recently allowed a family member to live at the residence with him.

Authorities also discovered the victim’s vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Antonio, but located it in Leon Valley unattended on Dec. 13.

Officials identified Jose Angel Arreola as a suspect in this case and issued two arrest warrants for the offenses of theft of property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On Dec. 15, LVPD contacted detectives saying that Arreola had been arrested for a burglary of habitation. Arreola was processed on both warrants and the new burglary of habitation charge.

On Dec. 17, authorities obtained a search warrant for the victim’s vehicle, which resulted  in the discovery of a machete, the suspected weapon used in this crime.

An arrest warrant for the charge of murder was issued to Arreola at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, where he remains in custody.
