District 8 councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez was arrested and charged with DWI.

SAN ANTONIO — The city councilwoman for District 8 was arrested and charged with DWI Thursday, court records show.

Ivalis Meza Gonzalez was recently elected to represent the district, which mostly covers the Medical Center area, after the seat was vacated by Manny Pelaez after eight years.

She has bonded out as of Friday morning.

There are no details yet on the arrest or what led up to it. KENS 5 is working to obtain more information.

Meza Gonzalez has been involved in politics for several years. She previously served as chief of staff for outgoing Mayor Ron Nirenberg, who also once represented District 8. She was a key advisor during the COVID-19 pandemic. She says her campaign was a grassroots effort involving knocking on doors and holding meet and greets in neighborhoods.
