Divers search for 19-year-old man who went underwater at Canyon Lake

Law enforcement agencies were dispatched to Canyon Lake near Overlook Park for a man who had gone underwater and had not resurfaced.

SAN ANTONIO — Multiple law enforcement agencies continue to search for a 19-year-old man who went under the water at Canyon Lake and did not resurface Sunday evening.

Around 7 p.m. the Comal County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens were dispatched to Canyon Lake near Overlook Park for a man who had gone underwater and had not resurfaced.

The teen was identified as Roiner Alejandro Rojas Pereira.

Deputies say Pereira was floating on a tube and drifted towards the water intake near Canyon Lake Dam. At some point Pereira became separated from the tub and started to wave and yell for help.

A witness started to swim towards Pereira in attempt to rescue him but Pereira went under the water and did not resurface.

First responders arrived and immediately began searching. Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, Hays SMART Dive Team and Comal County deputies continue to search.

Pereira is originally from Venezuela and came to the San Antonio area to make money for his family back home.
