Give Dobby a sock and she’ll be happy with you forever. Just kidding… she just wants to go for daily walks.
CANYON LAKE, Texas — UPDATE
We are happy to update you that Dobby got adopted. Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society said that after 408 days in their care, she now has a forever home. Dobby has settled in and is doing amazing.

Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week we went back to the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society (CLASS) and met Dobby, an almost 4-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix, who they are calling a “super mutt.”
Dobby actually arrived at CLASS on December 1, 2022 and immediately went into a foster situation with her litter of puppies after the previous management pulled her from a shelter where she was in danger of being euthanized.
“Previous management never kept up with or checked in on Dobby and she was one of the unlucky dogs that was ‘forgotten’ until new management took over,” said a CLASS representative. She was returned from foster to the shelter in May of 2023.
Sadly, much like the pathetic house-elf for which she was named, Dobby has not experienced much happiness in her life, until she arrived back at the shelter.
“It seems that Dobby was not used to the good things in life, like getting attention, treats, or toys,” said CLASS. “It took her almost four months to pick up a toy or look forward to treat time. It saddens us to know the shelter is the best she’s ever had and we are hoping she finds a family that will treat her like the princess she was meant to be.”
Dobby has not known much kindness in her life | Forgotten Friends
Dobby now knows that she loves treats and would be the happiest little girl on the planet if someone would pet her 24 hours a day. She loves people and wiggles her entire body when someone gives her attention.
“Her favorite toys are the crinkling ones, or those that she can shake and she rarely tears them up,” said CLASS staff. “She’s great on the leash and easy to handle.”
Dobby seems to be potty trained and her kennel stays nice and tidy. The shelter thinks she would do best with a family that is searching for a snuggly, happy dog that will follow them around everywhere. She doesn’t need an active family because she’s content to lounge most the day away.
The shelter said they’ve worked with Dobby on her dog reactivity and have made a lot of progress since she first arrived. Dobby actually just made her very forst dog friend. She seems to get along best with dogs that are the same size or even smaller than her. She loves to play tug of war with toys. CLASS told us she also never bothers the outside barn cats at the shelter.
Dobby is heartworm positive but CLASS says they will continue to pay for the treatment until she is heartworm-free.
Dobby has never been asked to sit by a wizard… could you be the one she’s been waiting for?
If you’d like to give Dobby a home, please contact the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society. To fill out an application, visit their website here.
“What a beautiful place… to be with friends. Dobby is happy to be with her friends.”
