DOCUMENTS: Child witnessed shooting that killed East Texas mother at Tyler apartment

Cheyenne Russell’s roommate said she had just moved into the apartment the morning of Jan. 6, the same day she was killed, the affidavit read.

TYLER, Texas — Arrest documents show the child of an East Texas woman witnessed her get shot between the eyes at a Tyler apartment earlier this month.

Jorian Jackson, 29,  is charged with murder in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend, Cheyenne Russell, 26, of Nacogdoches, on Jan. 6 at an apartment complex, located at 9999 Bellwood Lake Rd. in Tyler. He was found this Wednesday after being on the run for over two weeks. 

According to an arrest affidavit, Russell’s roommate found Russell dead with a blanket over her head and blood on her face. The roommate said Russell had just moved into the apartment the morning of Jan. 6, the same day she was killed. 

The roommate said Jackson, the father of one of the children, was at the apartment dropping off Christmas presents for the kids. He was also questioning why they broke up a year after Jackson had an accident. The roommate told police that Jackson and Russell had a “tough relationship” before this accident, the document read. 

According to the document, around 2 p.m., the roommate noticed that Russell was on the couch with a blanket over her head and she assumed she was asleep. But later, Russell’s oldest child came to the roommate saying her mom was dead. The child confirmed with the roommate that Jackson and Russell had been fighting. 

In a police interview, one of Russell’s two kids said their mom and dad were fighting, and their dad caused the “”red’ on mommy’s dress.” At the apartment, police officers found three wounds on Russell’s body, including one on the bridge of her nose in between her eyes, the affidavit read. 

Police have said that both of Russell’s children are now safe. 

In addition to Jackson’s arrest, his grandparents, Carolyn and Willie Johnson, both 75, of Tyler, are charged with hindering apprehension after their grandson was found at their home Wednesday evening.
