Dog-friendly beer garden plots opening date in – mySA

Welcome to the first of hopefully many weekly food new roundups centered on San Antonio’s burgeoning dining scene. As MySA’s new food reporter, I’ll summarize a handful of culinary happenings that range from openings, new menu items, pop-ups, and fast food expansions happening in San Antonio on a weekly basis. Unless this totally flops, in which case, enjoy this very special episode of S.A. Food News (but we know you’re going to eat this up).

Temporary closures for two heavy hitters

Con Huevos Tacos will be closed, but please do not cry because it’s just until Tuesday, February 7. The beloved taqueria has received significant attention (and steady business) for its appearance on the Netflix show Taco Chronicles, and the team needs a break. Never fear, Con Huevos will return soon.

Just down the street, Korean-inspired New American restaurant The Magpie, by chef Jŭngsūk “Sue” Kim, has been offering some of the most beautiful and delicious dishes in the city, including braised tofu, creative rib eye presentations, and a host of pan-seared fish. The restaurant is currently closed for remodeling but is said to announce a grand reopening soon.

Next up, Texas Dog Co announced that it will host a soft launch event, with an option to RSVP on the business’s website. This comes after the business pushed around the date a couple of times, finally settling on March 4 via an Instagram post

San Antonio already has one or two boozy places with built-in dog parks, like Hop & Hounds on the Northside, but Texas Dog Co. boasts a whopping 24,000 square footage intended for lots of canine play and responsible human drinking. Bar America owner Brian Correa is the main person behind the giant project, which is located across the highway from USAA.

This new residency for Last Place Burgers comes after a number of successful pop-ups at Jefferson Bodega, Besamé, and Tony’s Siesta. The truck’s hours will run Wednesday through Monday, during Roadmap’s regular business hours

Crawfish coming to Two Bros

Chef Jason Dady’s Two Bros BBQ Market will kick off crawfish season on Friday, February 3, which will reoccur every weekend (Friday through Sunday) until supplies run out. I’m not sure how large their supply of crawfish is, so your best bet is to get in early, and try some barbecue while you’re at it. Crawfish weekends at Two Bros will also include drink specials and live music.
