SAN ANTONIO — At least 10 people were displaced Sunday evening after a fire spread between two homes on the city’s inner west side, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
SAFD said crews were dispatched around 6:04 p.m. to the 2600 block of San Luis Street after multiple callers reported a possible house fire. Firefighters arrived to find a significant blaze burning between two closely spaced homes, with both structures already on fire.
According to SAFD, it took crews about 20 minutes to bring the “stubborn” fire under control after flames spread into the roofs of both houses.
Firefighters believe the fire may have started under the carport of the first home. Eight people lived in that house, while at least two people were inside the neighboring home, SAFD said. In total, at least 10 people were displaced. All were able to self evacuate, officials said.
No residents were hurt, according to fire officials. However, at least one dog died in the fire and possibly another. Fire crews also rescued three other dogs from the scene.
Neither home is considered a total loss but officials said there appeared to be significant smoke and water damage inside the first house and heavy fire damage to the right side of the second.
Roads around San Luis Street are blocked while firefighters work the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This is a developing story.
