SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a man at an apartment on the west side of San Antonio Saturday.

Police say an altercation broke out between two people that escalated and ended with one of the men shooting the other multiple times.

According to SAPD, officers were dispatched for shooting at the 900 block of San Fernando Street just before 8 a.m. on Sept. 13.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, 35-year-old Anthony Michael Sanchez, on the ground with gunshot wounds to his arm and head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the victim and the suspect, now identified as Alejandro Antonio Cruz, 29, were arguing when Cruz pulled out a gun and shot Sanchez. Cruz then ran off.

Police say the victim’s wife heard the gunshot, and came to check on him and found him with a gunshot wound to his arm, according to the affidavit. The victim told his wife to call 9-1-1, police say. Arrest paperwork says that just prior to the second gunshot the wife heard the victim refer to someone as “cuz” and he was stating something to the effect of “no don’t do it, cuz.”

When the wife returned following the second gunshot, she found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head, document say.

Police say that witnesses at the scene who know both men saw the suspect shoot the victim, retreat then return and shoot hi a second time, the affidavit says.

Documents say the witnesses positively identified the suspect in a six photograph lineup as the person who shot the victim.

Cruz is charged with the felony offense of homicide.

This is a developing story.
