Don’t risk it! Here’s how to get around safely on New Year’s Eve

There are plenty of options so you don’t have to get behind the wheel.

HOUSTON — New Year’s Eve is Sunday night. It’s a time for celebration and parties. Sadly, it’s also for drinking and driving.

So far this year in Houston alone, there have been 5,100 DWI arrests.  In Harris County, the district attorney’s office said there have been 11,800 DWI charges. Forty-four of them were intoxication manslaughter charges according. 

A Forbes magazine survey drills even deeper, saying thirty percent of fatal car accidents in 2021 occurred in November and December, the big holiday months. 

So why risk it? We have some tips for getting around on the big night

The first move is to find a designated driver or you can catch a ride with METRO  from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. It’s free on thelocal bus, METRO rail, METRO rapid and METRO lift. 

Armstrong, Lee and Baker, a local law firm will pay for Lyft, Uber or Yellow Cab rides of up to $35.00. The terms are on their website and the offer is valid for the first 50 people who apply on their website.

In year’s past, AAA has offered Tipsy Tow service. They said that’s usually announced right before New Year’s, so stay tuned.
