SAN ANTONIO — The popular on-demand delivery service, DoorDash, launched a new program to help with rising gas prices Monday.
The company is starting to utilize an emergency relief program, which includes 10% cash back on gas for U.S. “Dashers” or drivers using the DoorDash Crimson Visa Debit Card and weekly relief payments for dashers who drive 125 miles or more while driving.
Company officials said Dashers who qualify for both of these options could save between $1.40 to $1.90 per gallon based on miles driven. The program will be available until April 26.
“Rising gas prices have a real impact on Dashers, especially those who are delivering the most. This program is about giving Dashers real savings at the pump,” Cody Aughney, vice president at DoorDash, said.
According to the announcement, Dashers can earn the 10% cash back using the Crimson card at any U.S. gas station, whether they’re working or not. Data shows more than half of Dashers already have the card, and anyone can apply for it in the Dasher app. The dashers who drive at least 125 miles on deliveries can get a weekly fuel payment, starting at $5 and can go up to $15, depending on how many miles they drive.
DoorDash also offers a program for Dashers who drive electric vehicles, or are considering switching to help lower the cost of a new car and charging. DoorDash Crimson cardholders also earn 2% cash back on EV charging purchases, and all Dashers can get exclusive discounts on EV charging through Presto.
