SAN ANTONIO — State authorities have identified the man shot and killed by a Castle Hills police officer who was responding to a hit-and-run incident Wednesday morning.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said 24-year-old Jazz Joseph Fernandez died after an officer fired his gun and hit him in the area of Loop 410 and Blanco Road. It’s still unknown if Fernandez was connected to the initial reported hit-and-run.
Castle Hills police officials previously said the officer responded to the incident near Exit 19B when a man, now identified as Fernandez, “exited a vehicle and advanced toward the officer while armed with edged weapons.”
That’s when the unidentified officer discharged his weapon. No officers were injured.
The Texas Rangers are leading the ongoing investigation into the police shooting. Authorities didn’t release any additional new details on Thursday aside from Fernandez’s name.
