Students praised coach Zain Glover for teaching leadership and discipline both on and off the court.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Starting off the week strong, Driscoll Middle School had the chance to recognize one outstanding teacher and coach.
Boys’ athletics coordinator and AVID Coordinator Zain Glover was recently named the 2025 San Antonio and Austin Spurs Jr. NBA Scholastic Coach of the Year, a high honor for the middle-school educator.
His players told 3NEWS Glover has taught them valuable leadership skills.
“He’s a great coach he’s taught me discipline, leadership, he’s taught me to be a leader when things get hard,” said eighth-grade basketball player Timothy Colton. “I think it’s just an honor to know that I have been under a coach–such as him.”
Glover said Monday’s award ceremony was special to him, as he got to hear all his students had to say about him.
“It was really cool to have my current students speak to give their testimonials as the impact I have had on them and not only on them but on the field or the court and inside the classroom,” he said. “Helping embody them to be the best human beings they possibly could be to reach ultimate success in the future.”
