A SWISD bus carrying 33 students overturned on Loop 410, sending the driver and five students to the hospital, with the driver requiring urgent transport, SAFD says.
SAN ANTONIO — More details are emerging after a school bus crash caused major traffic delays Tuesday morning on San Antonio’s southwest side.
The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. along Loop 410 South near FM 2536, also known as Old Pearsall Road, after a Southwest Independent School District bus overturned on the access road.
According to SWISD, 33 students from Southwest Legacy High School were on board at the time of the crash. District officials said none of the students were seriously injured. The district says the bus did not have seat belts.
Joseph Arrington with the San Antonio Fire Department said the bus driver and five students were transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. He added that the driver was the only patient who required urgent transport.
Several other students reported minor injuries, according to fire officials. EMS crews and school nurses were at the scene checking students as a precaution.
Traffic in the area is expected to remain backed up for several hours as crews work to clear the scene and investigate what led to the crash.
KENS 5 will continue to follow this developing story.
