San Antonio Police are at a low water crossing on W. Commerce St. at Pinn Rd. where a driver is trapped in high water.
A high water rescue is underway on the west side of San Antonio.
San Antonio Police responded to West Commerce Street at Pinn Road for a possible driver trapped in the high water.
Firefighters used a platform truck with a ladder extended to check if there were any people inside the vehicle found in the rushing water.
Police say they have limited information at the moment, but do know that the driver drove around the barriers at a very high rate of speed and ended up in the water.
An officer witnessed it happening and rushed over to check on the vehicle’s occupants. That vehicle was stolen from another part of town, say police. Officials determined there are no occupants inside the vehicle. The alleged car thief took off before police arrived.
“The officers that looked into the vehicle, they’re satisfied that the passenger area of the vehicle is clear, and they followed up with, and said some tracks were seen in the brush,” said police. “So right now, we’re just gonna scale it back and SAFD will leave, and we’re going to leave two officers here to recover the vehicle as soon as the water goes down.”
Police are looking for the driver.
This is a developing story.
