Driver arrested after 6 people hit by vehicle in San Marcos

A truck driver allegedly hit multiple people on a crosswalk early Thursday morning.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Six pedestrians were struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning in San Marcos, Texas. 

According to the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD), responders arrived at around 1 a.m. to a collision between a truck and multiple people on East Hopkins Street & North LBJ Drive. 

Officers said six people were hit in a crosswalk, and five were transported to hospitals for injuries, none of which are reported to be life-threatening. 

The driver of the truck appeared to be intoxicated, and police said he was arrested on scene. The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Enrique Gutierrez-Field. San Marcos Police say that Field is facing multiple criminal charges though they haven’t yet released what those specific charges will be. 

A representative for the city of San Marcos said more details will soon be shared.
