Driver crashes BMW into guardrail, runs from officers on downtown off-ramp

According to San Antonio police, the driver was behind the wheel of a 2017 BMW 230 when he slammed into a guardrail, causing major damage to the car.

SAN ANTONIO — A 24-year-old man is in custody after police say he crashed his car into a guardrail and then tried to run from officers early Sunday morning near downtown.

Officers were called to the northbound I-37 off-ramp to westbound I-10 around 4:39 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash.

According to San Antonio police, the driver was behind the wheel of a 2017 BMW 230 when he slammed into a guardrail, causing major damage to the car.

As officers arrived, police say the driver took off on foot but was caught a short distance away.

During the arrest, officers say the man was found with narcotics and was charged with possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest on foot.

Police did not say if anyone else was hurt in the crash.
