Driver cut his own wrists after leading deputies on chase, crashing into apartment carport, HPD says

The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police said he was wanted on multiple felony warrants.

HOUSTON — Houston police said a chase suspect cut his own wrists after leading authorities on a chase in northwest Harris County on Thursday.

They said it started around 3:45 p.m. when a box truck was pulled over on the Sam Houston Tollway. Authorities said the truck was flagged because it was known to blow through toll booths without paying the fee.

When deputies pulled the truck over, according to investigators, they found the driver was wanted on multiple felony warrants.

When they went to arrest him, he took off and led them on a chase that came to an end at an apartment complex on Trail Hollow Drive between Brittmoore Drive and the Sam Houston Tollway.

They said the driver couldn’t get out of the complex, so he crashed into a carport and rammed the deputy’s vehicle.

Investigators said one deputy got out of the squad car and fired at the suspect, who got out of the box truck and ran from the scene.

A short time later, a resident approached authorities and told them the suspect broke into their apartment.

The deputies suffered minor injuries and are expected to be OK.

Investigators said they’re not sure what was inside the box truck ,but the suspect had an extensive criminal history and an open warrant for theft.
