Driver dies after fiery high-speed crash on San Antonio’s north side, police say

According to SAPD, witnesses told officers the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed before crashing into a tree.

SAN ANTONIO — A driver is dead following a fiery crash early Saturday morning on the city’s north side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

SAPD said officers were dispatched around 3 a.m. to the 1600 block of U.S. Highway 281 near Thousand Oaks Drive for a major accident involving one vehicle.

Witnesses told officers the driver was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed before crashing into a tree, SAPD said.

Police said the vehicle immediately became engulfed in flames.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to SAPD. The driver has not been identified.

The crash remains under investigation.
