Driver dies after SUV plummets off highway overpass onto pillar in north San Antonio, police say

The victim, a man who police believe to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A driver is dead after San Antonio police say a vehicle drove off a highway overpass on the city’s north side Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, it appears the crash happened in the overnight hours off North Loop 1604 East at Judson Road. Police say calls began to roll in during the morning commute around 7 a.m.

The driver of a black SUV sped off the highway overpass and crashed straight into a pillar, according to SAPD officials at the scene. Police said the vehicle was cold when officers arrived.

The victim, who police later said was a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
