Driver in critical condition after crashing into back of an 18-wheeler truck

Firefighters had to work to extract the driver from the crash that happened on the southwest side of town early Friday morning.

SAN ANTONIO — A driver is in critical condition after police say he was speeding and hit the back of an 18-wheeler truck on the southwest side of town early Friday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. on I-35 at the Poteet Jourdanton Freeway.

Police say after the crash, that driver rolled off I-35 with the engine left lying in the median of the highway.

Firefighters had to extricate the driver from his car.

He was taken to BAMC in critical condition.

Officers are investigating what may have led to the crash.
