SAN ANTONIO — One person is dead after a fiery single-vehicle crash early Saturday near downtown, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police said the crash happened around 1 a.m. near I-35 North and Powell Street. A vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed while taking an exit when the driver lost control and slammed into a utility pole, according to SAPD.
Police said the vehicle caught fire and several occupants, who were able to exit the vehicle, attempted to extract the trapped driver but were unable to.
The 25-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. One passenger was hospitalized as a precaution, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
