Drop in oxygen kills fish in Texas lake, officials say

Denton officials responded to reports of dead fish at Unicorn Lake, according to a press release from the city.

DENTON, Texas — Denton officials said a drop in oxygen killed fish in Unicorn Lake.

Saturday, Denton’s environmental services team assessed the dead fish at Unicorn Lake and determined the cause was most likely a temporary drop in dissolved oxygen, the city said in a press release.

The drop was either due to recent weather conditions or algae activity within the pond, the release states.

By Saturday afternoon, oxygen levels had already rebounded to normal, officials said.

The incident was reported to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, police said.
