Duke fans cheer their Blue Devils as they depart for San Antonio, hoping for a sixth NCAA championship.
Excitement filled the air outside Cameron Indoor Stadium this morning as Duke fans gathered to cheer on their Blue Devils before the team departed for San Antonio. With hopes of securing a sixth NCAA championship, the energy was electric.
“The energy is just wild,” one fan exclaimed.
“Duke is the standard,” said another.
The Blue Devils enter the tournament as one of the hottest teams, and their supporters are rallying behind them. Chants of “We want 6!” echoed as players and coaching staff prepared for the bus ride to the airport.
“We’ve done all year where we’ve come prepared and the coaching staff gets things rolling, and then we’ll do the same hopefully in San Antonio,” said an alumni.
It’s a hunger shared not only by Coach Jon Scheyer and his players but by the fans themselves.
“I mean, absolutely historic, right? This team is phenomenal, it’s generational,” said one Duke junior.
From students,
“I follow this team from early childhood. The high possibility that they are going to win is monumental to me. The basketball team is one of the big reasons why I wanted to be a Blue Devil,” said a freshman.
To alumni,
“We were debating trying to make it to San Antonio this weekend and couldn’t do it because of work and different things. But we saw this and thought, hey, spring break—this is the best way we want to spend our morning today,” said a Duke alumni now a father to Duke fan.
The infectious energy as the team loaded up their buses was palpable,
“We’ve really started our freshman year off with a bang, and it’s really exciting,” said another freshman.
Now, as the buses left the campus, it’s up to the Blue Devils themselves, to bring that excitement onto the court.
“Of course, I don’t know all the rules and regulations, but I love to watch them. They’re wonderful,” said a fan and proud grandmother of a Duke alum.
However, before thinking about the championship, they must first take on the Houston Cougars in the Final Four. Tip-off is set for Saturday at 8:49 PM.
