University Hospital is caring for a 59-year-old woman who was wounded in the shooting. She’s currently in fair condition.
EAGLE PASS, Texas — The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, which became the site of tragedy early Sunday morning, remains closed to the public until further notice.
More than 24 hours after the shooting that left two people dead and five others injured, the crime scene in Eagle Pass is now cleared up while the alleged gunman is locked up in Maverick County.
Alicia Sanchez of Dimmit County died while being transported to the hospital following the chaos at the casino. She took care of her four children.
Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez posted a picture on Facebook of another victim identified as Marcus “Mark” Antley, whom he described as a beloved member of the Eagle Pass community. Valdez noted he Antley was a retired agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.


Of the five people injured in the shooting, two were taken to University Hospital in San Antonio. A 22-year-old woman was treated and released while officials say as of Monday evening, doctors are still caring for a 59-year-old woman who’s listed in fair condition.
People who live next to the casino say they’re keeping extra vigilant after what unfolded over the weekend. One woman who makes bracelets for Kickapoo tribal members, stressed her heart is with the families of those who died and survived the incident.
Kickapoo representatives could not provide a timeline as to when the casino will open back up the public.
The suspect, Keryan Rashad Jones of San Antonio, has a $4.5 million bond for the capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges, according to Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber. He adds Jones is being held in a solitary cell for security reasons.
