
In what is slowly becoming a regularity in this tiny Texas town, another earthquake has been reported near the San Antonio area. The U.S. Geological Survey, the agency responsible for tracking and analyzing earthquakes, is reporting that an earthquake rattled southeast of San Antonio near Floresville.
At about 7:52 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, a 3.0 Magnitude earthquake was reported in Falls City, Texas, which is about 40 miles to the southeast of San Antonio. The quake had a reported depth of 7.4 km, according to the USGS, and had a minimum distance of 11.1 km, or about seven miles.
This is now the fourth quake reported in the town in as many weeks. On January 29, a whopping 4.5 Magnitude earthquake was recorded in Falls City, and a 3.6 Magnitude one was recorded just days later on January 31. The most recent happened just a week later on February 5 and was a Magnitude 2.8 quake
Over the past few months, and even the past couple years, there’s been a rapid rise in the number of earthquakes impacting Central Texas. There has been a spike in quakes rattling towns around San Antonio – an area not known, historically, for its earthquakes.
The most recent reported earthquake in Texas besides the quake Saturday night, was on Friday, February 14 near El Paso in West Texas. A 5.0 magnitude earthquake rattled nearly 33 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas, about 190 miles from El Paso at 11:23 p.m. on Friday night. The quake hit a depth of 6.6 km.
