SAN ANTONIO — East Central ISD is welcoming back students this morning.
The district is rapidly growing, and school officials estimate almost 13,000 students will be enrolled this year.
A good number of students are going to the new Valor Middle School as part of a soft opening. While many classes will be held in the new school, the rest will be right next door at Tradition Elementary while construction wraps up.
“Next year, we’re going to open the doors and they can all come through, right? That, that reside within the boundary line. Um, but this year is just kind of a soft one, you know, make sure everything is, is, is good and safe and you know, great for the kids and then next year, you know, we’ll open those doors wide and anyone that boundary line can go to it,” said Brandon Oliver, director of Marketing and Communication.
Next year, the district will also open another elementary school on the south end of the district.
Districts across the board are also having to implement a technology ban due to a new state law that prohibits cell phones and tablets in the classroom.
East Central ISD tells KENS 5 they have an “out of sight, out of mind” policy that will continue this year.
The first school in the district started at 7:27 this morning.
