East-side building faces potential teardown after vent cooking sparks fire, according to officials

SAN ANTONIO — A fire possibly caused by someone cooking on a metal air vent could cause an east-side building to be torn down, according to officials.

San Antonio firefighters were called to the intersection of Rigsby and Nopal at about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday night. Upon arrived, they saw smoke coming from the back of the building at the location. They had to force entry to the building.

The fire was quickly knocked down but had to spend some time cutting up the floor.

Officials say it was possibly caused by “someone who was cooking on a metal air vent.”

Because of the danger inside this building, officials say the city might tear the building down. Damage however was moderate.

No injuries were reported.
