East Texas man, mother arrested after 3-year-old hospitalized from THC gummies

Police say the toddler was unresponsive after ingesting THC gummies.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A Nacogdoches father and grandmother are in jail after police say a 3-year-old was hospitalized from eating THC gummies.

Sgt. Brett Ayres with the Nacogdoches Police Department said officers responded to a home around 10 a.m. last Saturday after receiving a report of an unresponsive toddler. Investigators determined the child had eaten THC gummies.

The child was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to another facility for a higher level of care.

Police said the child’s guardians, identified as Zackery Cole Putman, 22, and Jennifer Elaine Sanders, 40, were arrested and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

Putman was charged with abandoning a child, while Sanders was jailed for  possession of a controlled substance and abandoning/endangering a child criminal negligence. 

Bond has not been set.
