East Texas man with dementia who went missing Thursday found deceased

A SILVER ALERT for an 88-year-old man who went missing Thursday afternoon Nacogdoches County has been canceled after the man was found deceased.

CHIRENO, Texas — A SILVER ALERT for an 88-year-old man who went missing Thursday afternoon in the Chireno area of Nacogdoches County has been canceled after the man was found deceased.

Syndey Alvers was last seen around 4:30 p.m. Thursday walking near the 4000 block of CR 350. According to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, he was wearing a white shirt with red lettering, blue jeans and house shoes. Alvers suffered from dementia.

Shortly before dark, Alvers’s body was found less than a half-mile from his residence lying in a pasture surrounded by tall grass and brush.

“The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office along with the Texas Rangers are investigating his death,” Sheriff Bridges said. “At this time the cause of death is unknown. Justice of the peace, Pct. 3 Judge Goerner responded to the scene and an autopsy was ordered.”
