DALLAS — Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was recently named a winner of the 2024 Ed Block Courage Award.
Overshown, who is from Arp, was selected by his teammates for his hard work and commitment to returning after his knee surgery. He and 31 others were honored this weekend at the 47th Annual Ed Block Courage Awards in Maryland.
During a preseason game of his 2023 rookie season, Overshown tore his ACL, causing him to spend his first season recovering to get ready for his 2024 debut. The award website says that the Overshown persevered and used the challenge as his motivation. In 2024, he started in 12 out of the 13 games he played.
“Overshown became the heart and soul of the Dallas Cowboys defense and racked up 95 tackles, 5.0 sacks, three tackles for loss, 16 pressures, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four pass breakups and an interception he returned 23 yards for a touchdown,” the Ed Block Courage Awards website reads.
After those 13 games, he suffered another season-ending injury to his right knee in December. The Cowboys said in a news release there’s no doubt that Overshown will have the same intensity during this stint in rehab as well.
The award website says Overshown fully embodies the spirit of the Ed Block Courage Award.
