East Texas triple homicide suspect hospitalized after crashing into Buc-ee’s, shooting himself

A Texas man wanted for a triple homicide is hospitalized after crashing into a pedestrian in Ennis and shooting himself.

HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — A man accused of killing three people in an East Texas home early Friday morning has been hospitalized after crashing into a pedestrian and the Buc-ee’s in Ennis and shooting himself in the head.

Christopher Kyle Reid Jr., 29, of Hubbard, was wanted for a triple homicide that happened in the Cedar Creek Cove subdivision in Mabank around 2:30 a.m. The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office put out a Facebook post to help find him.

Later, around 5 a.m., the car that Reid was known to be driving, a 2003 maroon, Dodge Caravan, crashed into the southwest entrance of the Buc-ee’s in Ennis, according to the local police department.

Ennis police said Reid struck and pinned a pedestrian against a sales display near the main entrance as the vehicle entered the building. When the car stopped, he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.

Reid was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The pedestrian, an Oklahoma woman, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt. Chris Williamson confirmed the Texas Rangers and DPS are assisting in the investigation.

“The Ennis Police Department is actively investigating the incident and cannot release any further information at this time. We are grateful to the Ennis Police Officers, Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputies, Department of Public Safety Officers, Ennis Fire Department, Allegiance Emergency Services, and the staff at Buc-ee’s for their quick response to this tragic and shocking event. We are deeply saddened by this incident and stand with all those involved as our community heals,” the Ennis Police Department said.

The three victims in the homicide have not yet been identified, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Megan Hogan said.
