Easter camping is a long-standing tradition enjoyed by families in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — If camping out Easter weekend is a tradition for you and your family – listen up, because you can start camping out as early as Thursday.

Be honest – where else would you like to spend Easter Sunday than outside at the park enjoying nature? Not only is it a great time to relax, but it’s also a great way for San Antonians to meet their neighbors.

Connie Swann with the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation department stresses that spaces are first-come, first-served.

KENS 5 spoke with camper Jesse Ray Cavazos who said he’s doing his cousin a solid by ‘tent-sitting’ for him.

“Trying to get a good spot for Easter Sunday, because when you come out to these nice parks, it’s very hard to find a nice spot,” Cavazos said. “So, I decided to help out my cousin because he wants a very good first Easter for his daughter. So, I decided to do him a good solid and sit for him because I ain’t got anything else better to do.”

Cavazos says his cousin will arrive Saturday to take ownership of his spot.

The City of San Antonio wants to make sure every camper is safe and they remind everyone to follow these guidelines:

  • Never leave a lit grill unattended
  • Make sure to bring trash bags to keep the park clean
