SAN ANTONIO — Edgewood ISD said a suspect is in custody after Memorial High School was placed under a “temporary lockdown” on Friday.
According to the San Antonio district, authorities with Edgewood ISD responded to the west-side school around 1:40 p.m. “after receiving information about a possible weapon on campus.” The unidentified suspect was “quickly located,” officials say, adding there wasn’t a threat to students or staff.
It’s unknown if a weapon was found on the campus, nor did officials elaborate on the identity of the suspect.
Edgewood ISD police searched the school before lifting the lockdown. But some parents took to social media to vent their frustrations about a lack of communication from school officials while the lockdown was in place.
“Parents had to find out through their own kids (sic) social medias & txts,” one Facebook user wrote. “What’s it gonna take to prevent students and others from getting into our schools and hurting our children?”
In a separate letter to parents and faculty, Memorial High School Principal Miguel Elizondo said district police initiate lockdowns “when there is a potential threat or hazard inside a school,” adding that “there was no danger in this case.”
This is a developing story.
