SAN ANTONIO — A weapon was found at John F. Kennedy High School on the southwest side Wednesday, according to a letter from Edgewood ISD.
District officials say they received a report about a weapon being on campus which resulted in a temporary lockdown of the school. District police officers were able to find and secure the weapon. The lockdown was then lifted once the campus was deemed safe
EISD says Brentwood STEAM School of Innovation was also placed under a temporary lockdown due to its close proximity to Kennedy High School.
Officials say the weapon was found thanks to the “See Something, Say Something” initiative from the EISD Police Department, which encourages everyone on campus to report suspicious activity.
District officials did not specify what kind of weapon was found.
The district issued the following statement:
“The safety and security of students, staff and faculty is the top priority for Edgewood ISD. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly. Today, Kennedy High School was placed under lockdown as a precaution, following a report of a weapon on campus. Edgewood ISD Police officers responded quickly, conducted a search and located the weapon. Officers took the student responsible for the weapon into custody. The lockdown was lifted once the campus was deemed safe.”
