Egg prices continue to rebound after last year’s record highs

TEXAS, USA — Egg prices continue to rebound after last year’s record high prices, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services.

According to experts, egg prices are falling as supplies increase. Egg supplies previously dropped last year with widespread losses due to the avian flu.

Prices currently sit at an average of $2.50 per dozen across Texas, which is a 58% decrease from last year. This is also the lowest recorded egg prices since 2023, according to Texas A&M Department of Agriculture Economics.

“Egg prices have ticked up a little with Easter around the corner and the expectation for that seasonal demand — the Easter egg hunts and baking, deviled eggs and that sort of traditional use around the holiday,” said David Anderson, professor of AgriLife Extension economist. “But shoppers will definitely notice prices are lower than last year.”

U.S. hens laying eggs rose from 292 million in March of 2025 to 308 million this year, due to smaller outbreaks throughout the winter season.

“We have more birds compared to last year because producers around the country haven’t been hit as hard by HPAI,” said Greg Archer, associate professor and AgriLife Extension poultry specialist. “There are a lot of eggs out there, and demand backed off some when prices were really high.”
