Eight Aggies selected in 2025 MLB Draft

Aggies slugger Jace LaViolette went 27th overall to the Guardians, headlining a draft that saw seven Texas A&M players, including Lamkin and Kent, join MLB ranks.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M slugger Jace LaViolette, the program’s all-time home run leader, was selected by the Cleveland Guardians with the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday night.

LaViolette becomes the 15th first-round pick in Aggie baseball history and the second in as many seasons, continuing Texas A&M’s run of top-tier talent at the next level. The junior outfielder belted 18 home runs, drove in 61 RBIs, and hit nine doubles in 2025. He started all 188 games of his career and helped lead the Aggies to the 2024 College World Series championship.

The Guardians weren’t done picking Aggies. On Day 2, they selected left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager with the 282nd overall pick in the ninth round. A 2024 All-American, Prager made 15 starts this season, going 4-4 with a 4.21 ERA, striking out 73 batters in 83 1/3 innings. He joined the 200-strikeout club in March and finished his career with a 14-9 record, a 3.93 ERA, and 250 strikeouts over 240 1/3 innings.

Also on Day 1, left-hander Justin Lamkin was drafted 71st overall by the Kansas City Royals, and shortstop Kaeden Kent was selected in the third round by the New York Yankees.

On the final day of the draft, five more Aggies heard their names called from the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta, Georgia.

Myles Patton, a junior left-hander, was the first of the group, taken in the seventh round (208th overall) by the Boston Red Sox. In his lone season in Aggieland, Patton started all 15 games he pitched, posting a 3-5 record with a 5.26 ERA. He struck out 82 batters and walked just 17 in 77 innings, leading the SEC in walks allowed per nine innings (1.99) and ranking sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.82).

Kaiden Wilson, a draft-eligible sophomore, was selected in the ninth round (258th overall) by the Miami Marlins. Wilson made 32 career appearances for the Aggies, including 22 this season, finishing 2025 with a 4.43 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings.

Wyatt Henseler went three picks later to the Washington Nationals. The graduate transfer started all 56 games for A&M in 2025, hitting .319 with a .423 on-base percentage and a .562 slugging percentage. He added 12 home runs, 15 doubles, 33 RBIs, and scored 48 runs, while collecting 16 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI performances.

Luke Jackson, a right-handed pitcher, was selected in the 11th round (327th overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays. He made 26 appearances, including two starts, and compiled a 1-0 record with a 5.74 ERA, striking out 28 batters in 26 2/3 innings.

In total, eight Aggies were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft — the program’s most since 2016. Texas A&M also remains the only program in the nation to have at least three players drafted every year since 2001.
