Eight new officer sworn in to Texas A&M Police Department

A&M said the officers will report for duty to begin field training on June 16.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M Police Department welcomed eight new officers on Friday, June 13.

According to the university, Jack Birtles, Garrett Cooper, Andrew Exley, Shawn Ferris, Joseph Kuciemba, Shaun McKelvey, Damian Moreno and Maricruz Perez were sworn in by Chief J. Mike Johnson during a ceremony honoring their completion of the Central Texas Police Academy’s 178th Basic Peace Officer Course.

In addition to the swearing in ceremony, the new officers also reportedly attended their academy graduation ceremony on June 13 at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.

The eight officers will report for duty to begin their field training on Monday, June 16, the university said, and will spend the next 20 weeks paired with Field Training Officers to “learn the duties of being a police officer at Texas A&M University.”
