Elderly Refugio couple identified after fatal crash into Aransas River

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Update: Troopers from the Refugio County Highway Patrol Office determined that the crash happened around 8:00 a.m. when the couple were driving to a doctor’s appointment. The 2019 Ford F-250 was traveling southbound and upon reaching a curve in the road, swerved out of the lane and flipped upside down into the Aransas River. 

The driver was identified as 71-year-old Randy Bingham and the passenger was 71-year-old Marcia Bingham of Refugio.

A single-vehicle crash near Sinton claimed the lives of an elderly couple on Friday. 

According to Texas Game Wardens and and the Refugio County Sheriff’s Department the accident happened on the Aransas River near the HWY 77 crossing, north east of Sinton. 

Deputies discovered a vehicle upside down in the water. As crews were recovering the vehicle, they found the elderly couple dead inside. 

This is an ongoing investigation. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
