SAN ANTONIO — An elderly woman was rescued from a fire at a home on the south side of San Antonio Tuesday, fire officials said.

Crews were called out to the home in the 1100 block of West Mayfield Boulevard around 11:15 a.m.

Fire officials said an elderly woman was inside the home on the phone and didn’t know anything about the fire happening. A public works employee spotted the fire and went inside with SAPD to help the woman get out. She did get safely out of the home and was evaluated at the scene.

Fire crews say the fire was likely caused by an electrical issue and there was no smoke detector in the home.
