Elon Musk says his dog is CEO of Twitter, a company he ‘had to’ buy

A few months ago, Twitter owner Elon Musk held a poll asking if he should step down as CEO of the company he purchased for $44 billion. More than 57% voted to the affirmative, though in the ensuing, contentious months on the app, it appeared that the fix was in. Musk was free to complain about bots, continuously change his mind about Twitter Blue, support the Dilbert guy’s racist tirade, and reply “wow” or “interesting!” to anyone willing to criticize George Soros or the present-day conditions of San Francisco.

Though, in a Twitter Spaces interview with the BBC on Tuesday evening, April 11, he confirmed that the poll was real.

“I’m not the CEO of Twitter. My dog is the CEO of Twitter. It’s a great dog.” Musk said. “He’s got a black turtleneck, what more would you need?”

Wow.

Musk is, of course, being facetious. The man loves his dog(e)s, but not this much. He’s just a modern-day prankster who believes his jokes to be insanely epic.

Interesting!

The interview is particularly awkward at every turn, starting with BBC journalist James Clayton’s questions about the abrupt mass firing of Twitter employees upon Musk’s purchase, some of whom who were unaware of their status at the company for extended periods. Clayton asked if he couldn’t have handled them more delicately, to which Musk took offense, saying that immediate cost-cutting measures were needed to keep Twitter afloat.

“This isn’t a caring/uncaring situation,” Musk said, of the firings. “If the whole ship sinks, then nobody’s got a job.”

After taking a few gulps of what is likely caffeine-free Diet Coke, he turns the interview around, asking what Clayton would have done.

It gets cringier from there.

One point that Musk stans and anti-woke-media critics have seized on is an exchange about hate speech on the app. When Musk asked for examples of a rise in hateful content, Clayton said that his For You feed has gotten “slightly more” hateful recently, but that he doesn’t use that tab anymore.

Musk begged for an example but Clayton didn’t provide one, which conservatives are using to dunk on the libs this morning.

“You just lied,” Musk said, in a clip you will see all over your For You feed today.

Clayton and Musk got into the business side of Twitter as well, with Musk saying that Twitter is “roughly breaking even at this point,” and that the company “could be cash-flow positive this quarter if things keep going well.”

Perhaps the most illuminating portion of the interview was when Clayton asked about the actual acquisition of the company, which took months and a contentious lawsuit to bring over the finish line. When asked if he bought Twitter because of the lawsuit, Musk answered to the affirmative.

“Well, I kind of had to,” Musk said.

We’re in that same boat. He had to buy it, and for some reason, we have to keep using it.
