Emotional night at Daikin Park as Carlos Correa rejoins Astros, Alex Bregman returns

Carlos Correa returns to Daikin Park, thrilled to rejoin the Astros after a trade from the Twins.

HOUSTON — Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman were back at Daikin Park on Monday.

Correa made his return following a recent trade that brought him back to the Houston Astros from the Minnesota Twins. Meanwhile, Bregman was in the ballpark for the first time as a visitor after signing with the Boston Red Sox this offseason.

Before Monday’s game, Correa told KHOU 11’s Jason Bristol he never thought he’d be able to put on a ‘Stros uniform ever again.

“I’m blessed that I get to do this again in front of all the fans here in Houston. We’re very happy to say the least. My whole family is super excited. It’s been a good week and we just want to keep going,” Correa said.

He also said the best part of being back with the Astros is being able to play with Jose Altuve again.

Bregman, who was drafted second overall by the Astros in 2015 and spent his first nine seasons in Houston, told Bristol this game would be “very special.”

“I’ve been looking forward to it for a while,” he said.

The third baseman even took time to sign autographs for fans before batting practice.

Before the game, the Astros honored Bregman with a special tribute video.

Both players received standing ovations at bat.
