SAN ANTONIO — After more than two decades, a San Antonio nightlife staple has announced its permanently closing its doors this month.
Pat O’ Brien’s announced their last day of service will be Sunday, August 31.
The bar first opened in 2003 seemingly bringing the spirit of New Orleans to the Alamo City.
Pat O’Brien’s quickly became a popular spot with their signature hurricanes, whimsical piano bar and live music featured on the outdoor courtyard.
Owner Cory Neal posted on Facebook about the closure and the memories that were made at the iconic bar.
“This wasn’t just a business however, it was a family. From the guests that walked through our doors to the staff who held us together, Pat O’s was filled with laughter, late nights and a true hospitable legacy!
The soul of Pat O’Brien’s has always been its people. I have been honored to work alongside some of the most dedicated, passionate, and loyal team members in the industry who have called this place home, ” Neal wrote.
He also mentioned the hardships the business went through including the COVID-19 pandemic, the fluctuating tourism industry, the rising cost to businesses and the yearslong construction projects surrounding the Alamo and other downtown shops.
Neal highlighted several employees in the Facebook post, noting their years of service along with their dedication to Pat O’ Brien’s, which ultimately made the bar a one-of-a-kind place.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you have done to make this place so incredibly special. To our beloved community: thank you for letting us be part of your stories. Viva San Antonio!”
