Erykah Badu’s album with The Alchemist was set to be released Aug. 29, but was delayed.
DALLAS — Fans of Dallas’ own Queen of Neo Soul, Erykah Badu, will have to wait a bit longer for her first new album in 15 years.
Badu announced on social media that her joint album with collaborator The Alchemist, which was set to be released Aug. 29, would not be released at midnight Friday.
“No aug 29 It’s @alanthechemist fault 😃,” Badu wrote in an Instagram message Thursday night.
It’s unclear when the album will be released. Consequence previously reported it will be named “Abi & Alan” to pay homage to the artists’ given names.
Badu shared that she was working on new music in an interview with Billboard in March, in which she said that her new album would be produced by The Alchemist, a noted hip hop producer who’s worked with the likes of Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar.
Badu, who signed with Motown Records in 2007, revealed that her new music would be released independently on her own label, Control FREAQ Records.
The album will be the first for the Grammy winner in 15 years.
She released her fifth studio album, “New Amerykah Part Two: Return of The Ankh” in 2010. It was a sequel to 2008’s politically tinged “New Amerykah Part One: (4th World War).”
Badu released her acclaimed debut album “Baduizm” in 1997 with hits like “On & On,” “Next Lifetime,” and “Appletree.”
Aside from her studio albums, she’s also released a live album and a mixtape during her career.
