Grupo Siggno will headline the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair, offering a performance to reconnect with fans and announcing a new album dedicated to their late mother.
SAN ANTONIO — Grupo Siggno is set to headline Friday night at the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair, bringing one of Tejano music’s most recognizable acts back to a stage where the band says it feels closest to its supporters.
Frontman Jesse Turner said the annual event has always been less about performing for fans and more about reconnecting with people the band has met over decades of touring.
“I only call it fan fair, but to me they’re not really my fans,” Turner said to KENS 5. “They are friends that we have met over the course of the years. We finally get the opportunity to say hello again in person.”
The Latin Grammy winning group is known for drawing energetic crowds, and Turner said performing at Fan Fair is also a way for the band to give back, especially because the event allows people to see artists without paying for a concert ticket.
“With gas prices being up and the economy being where it is today, we always try to give back as much as we can,” he said.
During the interview, Turner also revealed the band is preparing to release a new album in the coming weeks, one with deep personal meaning.
“We’re about to make the announcement, Turner said. “It is the first time I am announcing it. Here in about a week or two we’re going to release an album that’s dedicated to my mom. It is real raw, emotions and feelings. Every song on the new album is a feeling, it’s not just a sad feeling. It’s feelings of peace, comfort, love and family and unity. It is a good album. It’s my favorite album, to be honest with you.”
Turner lost his mother nearly seven months ago, a loss he said he continues to process.
“I’m still trying to understand it today,” he said. “You just have to learn to live with the pain. I think about my mom each and every single day. I try to live like she is still here.”
At one point during the interview, Turner shared a photo of his mother. It is an image framed that’s surrounded by angel wings that he described as one of his favorites.
“All I can tell you, anyone that is watching, hang in there,” Turner said. “If you prayed for me and have me in your thoughts and prayers, I appreciate it. I also hope that whatever you are going through, you are able to get through it. And with God, anything is possible.”
Grupo Siggno is scheduled to close out Friday night’s lineup at the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair with an 11 p.m. performance.
