The Austin burger chain will give 100% of profits from Thursday, July 10, to the Austin Disaster Relief Network.
AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin burger chain had to close locations early Thursday night as vehicles lined up – sometimes for miles – to support Central Texas flood relief efforts.
Earlier this week, P. Terry’s Burger Stand announced it would donate all of its profits on July 10 to the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) in the aftermath of the deadly Central Texas floods. All 36 P. Terry’s locations participated, from Austin to San Antonio.
Photos and videos on social media showed long lines of customers supporting the one-day-only initiative.
In a video posted to TikTok, commenters shared their support for the chain’s efforts.
“I was in line today. Couldn’t be more proud to eat P Terry’s,” one commenter wrote.
“I cried seeing this on the way home today,” another commenter wrote. “Texans are always going to be there for Texans!!!💗”
At around 7 p.m. Thursday, P. Terry’s posted to social media, saying they would close locations at 11 p.m. because they expected to run out of food.
Patrick Terry, the founder of the burger chain, posted a video Thursday night where he thanked customers for their support.
“The response was, to put it mildly, enormous,” he said. “Nothing that we could have ever, ever predicted. But man, everybody came out.”
Terry said drive-thru lines lasted for two miles in some locations, but customers still waited.
“This is such a special place. This is such an amazing state, to watch Texans all over to come do this,” Terry said.
After Thursday’s efforts, Terry said the restaurant will send a $150,000 check to the ADRN.
This weekend, other restaurants across the Austin area are also donating proceeds or profits to various flood relief efforts. Check out our full list.
