‘Evil demons’: San Antonio man arrested for online threat targeting Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, police say

San Antonio police said a 44-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation into an alleged online threat made toward Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly posting an online threat directed at Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said investigators received information on Tuesday about a threatening comment posted on the social media platform X. The post included language threatening violence and referenced the mayor directly, police said.

The comment stated: “More wasted money, stop voting democrat Bexar county. We should be hunting these evil demons down and executing them, starting with @Mayor_GOJ.”

Authorities immediately launched an investigation and identified the suspect as 44-year-old Ignacio Zuniga III, according to SAPD.

On Wednesday, SAPD officers obtained an arrest warrant and took Zuniga into custody without incident on a retaliation charge, police said.

“We take comments that threaten harm to an individual seriously and will take the necessary steps to thoroughly investigate these incidents,” SAPD Chief William McManus said in a statement.

No additional details were immediately released.

This is a developing story.
