Ex-Ranger doesn’t have glowing things to say about the team, but Texas got the final word Wednesday

Kevin Pillar critiqued the Rangers, but Texas got the final word – at least on Wednesday night.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Former Rangers outfielder Kevin Pillar didn’t seem to have the best experience in his short stint in Arlington this season, at least not what he was expecting. Pillar went on the Foul Territory podcast on Wednesday and talked about how the Rangers weren’t as tight of a group as he would have imagined, especially for a club that recently won a World Series.

“When I got in the clubhouse in Texas, there’s a lot of talent in there and there’s a lot of individual stuff going on,” Pillar told Foul Territory. “A lot of guys are doing their own thing. You might not see people until the game Guys are just kind of doing their own thing.”

Well, the Rangers got the final word Wednesday, it appears.

After Texas beat the Orioles 6-0 and won the series Wednesday night, the Rangers posted two pictures of the team celebrating with the caption, “Just some guys who love playing ball together.”

A subtle dig at Pillar, perhaps? Probably.

None of the above back and forth changes the fact that the Rangers remain 2.5 games out of the American League Wild Card race, after Seattle also won Wednesday night. However, the shuffling around of the standings this week has Texas as the first team behind the Mariners in the Wild Card hunt.

The Rangers will travel to San Diego for a three-game set over the Fourth of July weekend before a four-game series against the Angels. Then, if Texas wants any hope of climbing back into the American League West division race, they’ll need to win a three-game series against the Houston Astros, who are currently 9.5 games ahead.

If Pillar was off in his comments, now might be the time for the Rangers to prove it.
