Former Congresswoman Mayra Flores is not the cook she claims to be, as she is under rapid fire from social media users for reportedly using stolen food images. A series of plagiaristic posts from the current candidate for Texas’ 34th Congressional District were uncovered after her most recent post of some “gorditas de masa.”
Flores posted the photo on X and Instagram of some food being made over a fire with the caption “The Ranch life with family is the best.” In the comments, Flores made sure to imply that she made the gorditas when someone asked if they were pupusas, and she clarified they were made “de masa.”
A user on X called Flores out for using the stolen photo, even posting the original photo from Visit Guyana in March 2022. The user proved that the dish featured in Myra’s post was not even of Mexican cuisine and was Guyanese.

Other users commented on the post proving the former congresswoman wrong, adding, “She’s always been a liar, but this is kind of a ridiculous lie,” said user mean_toe.

Many of the posts had very apparent inconsistencies with her captions. One was of breakfast being cooked on a wood fire comal that Flores said was a gas stove in her post.
Flores was born in Burgos, Tamaulipas, Mexico and moved to the U.S. when she was 6. She was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas District 34 in 2022, but was unseated by Vicente Gonzalez in 2023. Flores is running to reclaim her seat in the 2024 election.
